NEWS FROM AROUND THE PRESBYTERY

First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston will be hosting the Community Ecumenical
Thanksgiving Service on Thanksgiving day at 10 AM.  Also, orders are being taken for
homemade pies for Thanksgiving.  Orders need to be into the church by Nov. 22nd. 
Pick up is scheduled for November 25th from 10 AM – 2 PM.  Choices:  Apple,
Apple Crumb, Pumpkin, Pecan.  Notify Louise Wasko by calling the church at 754-4945.

Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church (Niagara Falls) is holding a roast pork loin dinner and auction, Friday, November 20th, at 5:30 PM.  The auction begins at 6:30 PM.  For information or tickets, call 283-5744.

The First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora is meeting on December 1st at 7 PM to continue its book-series discussion.  The next selection is Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  Don’t forget the Ecumenical Music Ministry’s “Pipes of East Aurora,” (written up in last week’s e-newsletter) a tour of church organs that begins at 2:30 PM, November 15th, at Christ the King Seminary.

North Presbyterian Church (North Tonawanda) has a special service, “Hanging of the Greens,” Saturday, November 21st, at 6 PM.  The service is part of preparing the church for the Season of Advent, the season of preparation for and anticipation of the birth of the Christ child.

On December 6th, the deacons of Third Presbyterian Church (North Tonawanda) are giving a farewell luncheon for Sue Clark who is leaving for six months of service in Iraq.  Rev. Dr. Jeffery Grove has a radio ministry every Sunday morning on WJJL (1440 AM) at 9 AM.

Five students from SUNY Fredonia sing with the choir at First Presbyterian Church (Westfield).  They are Tim Antonacci (Clifton Park), Alethea Ganetis (East Setauket), Charlea Lyn Grieco (Pine Bush), Owen Hughes (Selden), and Jamie Scarpine.  Welcome to these young musicians!

Rev. Cynthia Wickwire Lundquist (First Presbyterian Church, Fredonia) in continuing her D.Min. studies at McCormick Seminary.

Charis Kids music ensemble, at First Presbyterian Church (Tonawanda), will perform in 2-part harmony on Sunday, November 15th during worship.

First Presbyterian Church (Niagara Falls) is participating in Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child.”  Shoe-box-sized boxes of gifts are due on November 15th.

Lockport’s First Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a Christmas pageant, Sunday, December 13th, at 10:30 AM, to be followed by a “Happy Birthday, Jesus” party.  Members of the congregation also run a homemade-peanut brittle sale.

Fall clean-up sessions on Saturday, November 14th, are scheduled by Orchard Park Presbyterian Church (9 AM) and Bethel Presbyterian Church (Lackawanna) (1 PM).  Orchard Park PC’s “Thoughtful Christian” series, led by Dave Brummer and Sandy Wallace, continues with a focus on health-care reform.

Adult fellowship at First Presbyterian Church (Youngstown) will be held on Monday, November 16th, at 7 PM.  Dr. Rebecca Krawlec will present “Living ‘Like God and His Angels in Heaven,’” a program about women’s lives in a 4th Century Egyptian Monastery.  Parents Together meets Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 PM.  The Second Saturday Concert Series continues at 7 PM on November 14th with “Thymelass,” a program of Celtic and folk melodies performed by Nick Riciutti.

A HYMN FESTIVAL OF PSALMS AND FAMILY EVENT AT KENMORE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Area church musicians will present a hymn festival at Kenmore Presbyterian Church,
2771 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, NY, November 15th, at 3:00 PM.  This year’s hymn festival will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the birth of John Calvin.  Click here for the flyer.  In addition, Nan Hoffman and Joe Tumino will be at Kenmore Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 21st, at 7 PM. THE GREAT DEERHURST AUCTION
On Saturday, November 14, 2009, you are invited to join the Deerhurst Presbyterian Chuch in Tonawanda to have fun, time for fellowship, and help the church all at the same time!  You will find something for everyone at this year‘s auction. There will be three different auction types: silent, ticket, and live.  There are many donations from local businesses including: Tops, Wegman's, Buffalo Bisons, Oil Changes, and over a dozen Restaurants, just to name a few.  Also, a reasonably priced dinner will be available. WAYSIDE HOLIDAY SHOPPING SPREE AND FOOD CONE ORDER FORM
Wayside Presbyterian Church, 5017 Lake Shore Road, in Hamburg, is scheduling a Holiday Shopping Spree, on Fri. from 7 to 9 PM, and Sat. and Sun. from 10 AM to 3 PM, Nov. 20th, 21st, and 22nd. There will be many one-of-a-kind handcrafted items including hand-painted ornaments, arrangements, wreaths, custom-made jewelry, Christmas decor on wood and glass, food cones, crocheted items,TLC scrapbook, card making and journaling products, portraits, beach glass art, soy candles, sauces and salsa, used books and media, and much, much more.  Homemade soup, sandwiches, and pies will be served in the Cafe.  Click here for the flyer and food order form.

MESSIAH AT ORCHARD PARK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Music and the Arts of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church announce a complete performance of Handel's greatest masterwork, Messiah, on Friday, December 4, at 7:30 PM, with the Community Advent Chorale, Chamber Orchestra (Gregory White, conductor) and soloists: Cristen Gregory, soprano; Faith M. Baer, mezzo-soprano; Jeffrey Thompson, tenor; and Derrick Smith, baritone.  The concert will be held at the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 South Buffalo Street, Orchard Park, NY.
