Faith United Presbyterian Church, 3150 Elmwood Avenue, Kenmore, NY (875-9550) has scheduled their Annual Musical Strawberry Carnival for Saturday, June 20, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. The youth band "Sugar and Jazz" which features Big Band Music, will play from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. There will be games, juggling (by Gravitational Bull) and bounce houses! Community leaders, representatives of foundations and NGOs, local officials, urban advocates, agency heads and their deputies in Great Lakes urban communities will meet June 18-19 at Buffalo State College in Buffalo, NY to discuss how to use the stimulus bill and future federal support to promote sustainable and equitable cities. The conference will focus on discussion from active members of the community to provide both a vision and framework for the long-term sustainable revitalization that has eluded the region for too long. One must register for the event, but for the small fee of $25 one can participate in all daytime activities, including lunches.

Board of Pensions Sabbath Sabbatical Grants Clint McCoy, our Synod Executive for Partnerships wrote: “As we approach the middle of 2009, I am writing to give you an update on the availability and use of Board of Pensions’ allotted Sabbath Sabbatical Grant Applications for members of the plan. The Synod of the Northeast has had the pleasure of having approved three grant applications in 2009 for pastors from three presbyteries in the synod. Eight (8) of the $3,000.00 sabbatical grants are still available this year. This represents a total of $24,000 available to ministers in our synod for education and refreshment. Join a West Virginia work team Volunteers are urgently needed to help with mucking out and clean-up of homes affected by recent flooding in West Virginia. The mid-May floods affected about 3,000 homes, with damage throughout six counties. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is working with the Presbytery of West Virginia in this response. The Presbytery of West Virginia has a very good work camp ministry in place (WVWAM) that is taking the lead in helping affected families. Encore Chorale Camp Retired? Love to sing? Come join singers from across the country at Encore Chorale Camp at Chautauqua, August 31 to Sept. 4. Our second annual Encore Chorale Camp for singers 55+ will be conducted by Jeanne Kelly, founder and director of Encore and Dr. Barry Talley, retired music director of the United States Naval Academy. Together, Kelly and Talley will offer fun and challenging repertoire, including Appalachia folk songs, a very funny medley of famous TV commercial music, spirituals and an exciting medley of music from Westside Story. Campers will begin their day with a movement/dance class taught by Peg Barrett-Walos, followed by a rehearsal. After lunch, campers can choose to attend a vocal technique class or a sectional, followed by another rehearsal. After dinner, campers are treated to excellent professional recitals at Lenna Hall, including the very talented West Shore Piano Trio, returning from last year and the hilarious and popular local “Unexpected Guests” with Chautauqua’s own Mike Sullivan. The campers will present an Encore Chorale performance on Friday, Sept. 4 at 2:00 pm in Lenna Hall. All concerts are free and open to the public. This 2 hour, non-certification course will cover the steps to performing CPR on adults and children along with how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). You will: Learn the steps necessary in performing CPR on an Adult and Child, Practice CPR compressions on the manikins used during our certification training courses , Learn to identify common emergency situations, Be taught basic First Aid skills and as an added bonus, your fee includes an American Red Cross keychain containing a face shield and gloves.
