Wayside (Hamburg) Presbyterian Church Prepares for Retirement of David Persons

Pastor Dave will be retiring from active ministry at the end of July, ending a pastoral career that began in January of 1970.  It has been a rich and rewarding career for him.  He looks forward to the longer periods of quiet and meditation, of continual study, of writing, of teaching, and spending time with his family.  He and his wife, Naomi, have eight grandchildren, who remain close by in the Hamburg area.  He also will nurture his recreational sport of the past 15 years, golfing!  Click here for a summary of an interview of Dave by Janita Byars.

FAITH IS GOING TO THE DOGS, CATS, AND ALL ANIMAL COMPANIONS

Buffalo C.A.N.'s Pet Food Pantry Challenge
In reponse to the recent economic recession The Buffalo Companion Animal Network has opened a Pet Food Pantry to help those having trouble feeding their pets.  Our Pet Food Pantry provides free pet food for a variety of animals including dogs, cats, birds, fish and other small animals for up to three months in a given year.  We have received a very generous donation from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lewiston on behalf of Sister Mary Mugsy, their resident pooch.  Upon hearing of this, Pastor Sydney Presbycat of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Kenmore has issued a challenge to other religious institutions to match or exceed their donation.  “Our parishioners are animal lovers.  We are pleased to have the opportunity to reach out into the community and help during these difficult times,” Pastor Joyce Sirianni said.

Blessing of the Animals at Faith
On Sunday, May 24, there will be a service to bless the animals from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.  All are invited to bring their precious pets or a picture of them for the Blessing of the Animals.  Dogs should be on a leash and cats, in a carrier.  Donations to Buffalo C.A.N.'s Pet Pantry will be received at that time.  Following the worship service, Buffalo C.A.N. will offer a microchip clinic for dogs and cats in the community.  The fee is $25 or $20 with a pet food donation.
