Ecumenical Cross Walk in Randolph
|
The Long Walk Carrying The Cross Randolph's ecumenical parishioners walked two and one half miles from East Randolph to Randolph stopping momentarily in front of homes and businesses to read scripture, pray and meditate on the saga of Jesus and his fatal journey to the cross. Randolph churches have observed this impressive Good Friday walk for many years. Photo was taken in front of home of Jack and Noralyn Berger in East Randolph, where Jack was working quietly at his computer when Pastor Leslie Latham, of the Randolph United Presbyterian Church, rapped on his office window and informed him "We're out in front please come and take our photo." The rest is history. It was a long, beautiful and impressive day for everyone...even for those non-walkers who had to seek relief when they returned home to soak their aching feet. While majestic, those taking turns carrying that large cross that distance was a challenge but the spiritual rewards had to be far greater than their short-lived sore feet. Despite our everyday trials, we must admit Jesus was victorious, with people reminding each other of this fact more than two thousand years later. Photo by Jack Berger
