Celebrating Fifteen Years of Radio Ministry

Rev. Dr. Jeffery L. Grove, Pastor of Third Presbyterian Church in North Tonawanda, has been proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ on his radio program called “Taste of New Wine” every Sunday morning for a decade and a half. “Taste of New Wine” is heard on WJJL, 1440AM on Sunday mornings at 9:00am.

“Taste of New Wine” opens with these inspiring words from Pastor Grove: “Good morning friends. This is ‘Taste of New Wine’ where we look to communion with Christ as a way of renewing a life of confidence and compassion.”

Pastor Grove’s radio ministry is supported by his church, Third Presbyterian Church in North Tonawanda, as one of their central outreach ministries. “Taste of New Wine” is heard throughout Western New York and Southern Ontario Canada.

Hundreds of special memorials and anniversary and birthday recognitions for loved ones have been delivered by Pastor Grove on “Taste of New Wine.” Shut-ins, hospitalized, and people looking for spiritual and emotional revitalization continue to listen to Pastor Grove’s inspiring messages every Sunday morning. As Pastor Grove says, “Everyone who is looking to communion with Christ as a way of renewing a life of confidence and compassion continue to tune in every Sunday morning on 1440AM, at 9:00 am to “Taste of New Wine.”

On February 12, Sunday, 12:00pm, the Deacons will be hosting a special luncheon after worship service to celebrate and recognize Rev. Grove’s inspiring radio ministry. Representatives from WJJL will be present to speak about Rev. Grove’s special radio ministry.

Third Presbyterian church has been faithfully serving our community for 105 inspiring years. Pastor Grove formally served Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church in Niagara Falls for twelve years. Several creative outreach programs were initiated by Pastor Grove during this time including the first State certified Presbyterian Church in Western New York; dinner theatres, special community Christmas events, such as Miracle on 59th Street, which included breakfast with Santa, pictures with Santa, huge bake sale and crafts, etc. For the last four years Pastor Grove has been instituting similar programs at Third Presbyterian Church.

Freelance Organist/Pianist

I am a free-lance organist available just for filling in at those churches around WNY who are in need.  I have been a substitute as a professional for several years and have played for various denominations throughout WNY.  I live north of Lockport and am a member of Wrights Corners Presbyterian Church.  However, I am not the organist there as I only free-lance with other churches.

Organist Needed at First Presbyterian Church of Allegany

HELP WANTED!  After several years of faithful service our organist/choir director is retiring.  The First Presbyterian Church in Allegany will have a permanent position for organist/choir director available, starting January 1, 2012.  Our Sunday service starts at 9 AM so, this would be perfect fit for a person now playing for a later morning service.  Interested parties can call Pastor John Woodring at the Church office @716-372-2912 or Jim Hitchcock @716-372-0064.  Calls will be returned.

Presbyterian Youth Connection Retreat Rescheduled
(and a few more details)

As previously announced, The Presbyterian Youth Connection invites any interested youth groups to a Presbytery Spring Retreat at Camp Duffield.  Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts the date has been moved back a week to Friday March 23 - Sunday March 25, 2012, so please make the change on your calendars.
And a few more details:
•    This retreat will be a collaborative effort, so all participating youth groups will work together on food and traveling costs.  For example, some youth groups may own vans and others may contribute gas money (and other such scenarios.)
•    Camp Duffield’s price for two nights is $40 a person.
•    The food and travel costs will not add a substantial amount to that, probably around $10.
•    The price you quote to your own youth group could be smaller due to your youth budget, fundraisers, etc.
•    The deadline for youth groups to sign on is February 15, 2012 to leave time for the youth leaders to plan the details and for Duffield to prepare for us.
Interested, want to sign up, further clarification needed?  Please contact Peter Martin at North Church Williamsville at pmartin@northchurchwilliamsville.org or 716-632-1330.

Heifer Women’s Lambing Project
April 13 – 16, 2012
Overlook Farm, Rutland, MA (central)

Join women of this Presbytery and women from across the country to watch a lamb take its first steps and reflect on the new beginnings that Heifer brings to millions of families around the world.  We will participate in the daily rhythms of a working farm learning basic animal husbandry skills with specific focus on the birthing process of goats, sheep, swine, cattle, rabbits and the hatching of chicks.
A blend of facilitated discussions, experiential hands-on learning activities and direct interaction and work with farm animals will help us also understand the mission of Heifer International and appreciate the lives of those helped by the organization.  It's a wonderful way to spend your spring vacation, learn more about Heifer and how animals help lift families out of poverty in the camaraderie of a diverse group of women.  Group is limited to 16 participants.  Registration is $475.
For more details, contact Elena Delgado at #860-2881 or via e-mail at elenad@verizon.net.  You can also speak to Joan at Overlook Farm at #508-886-2221.
The Women's Livestock Birthing at Overlook Farm may include:
•    Courses on birthing, pre-natal and post-natal care of livestock
•    Nighttime birth checks
•    An opportunity to explore Heifer's work throughout the world
•    Educational sessions focusing on sustainable agriculture
•    Culinary and food preservation techniques
And the big question Will I definitely see a birth?
You will most likely see one species of animal give birth but there are no guarantees as Overlook does not induce birth. The program provides a plethora of learning opportunities (and fun!) regardless of the births.

Registration Information

Participants: Women ages 16 (those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult) and older of all backgrounds and experiences.  The group is limited to 16 participants.
Per Person Tuition Fees: $475 (not tax-deductible) due upon registration and is made directly to Heifer Overlook Farm on a first-come first-served basis.  Please identify your participation as a member of WNY Presbytery.
Tuition Fee Includes: Educational programming including work projects, shared lodging in the bunkhouse and meals (dinner the first night to breakfast the last day).
Transportation to Overlook Farm:  Participants must provide their own transportation to farm.  Carpooling will be arranged.

It is a time to listen, and to share as well as to gain insight into new situations and learn new skills.

The main workshops are highlighted in the brochure accessed at the link below. Additional sessions will be offered. Between sessions there will be personal time for fellowship, reflection or a hike through the beautiful grounds of Crieff Hills.
