University Presbyterian Church (Buffalo) is sponsoring a four-part series of lectures, “Toward a Theology of Peacemaking,” by Dr. Timothy Wadkins, professor of Christian Studies at Canisius College. Wadkins will examine the roots of religious violence and offer the possibility of a Christian path toward peacemaking. The series is scheduled for Sundays at 10 AM in the Adult Education Forum from January 10th through 31st.
NEWS FROM AROUND THE PRESBYTERY
Randolph United Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a “prayers and quilters” program. Meetings in January are scheduled for Saturday, the 23rd, at 1 PM, and Sunday, the 24th, after the church service.
The Men’s Group of First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo has scheduled a dinner on Thursday, January 28th, at 6 PM. Leonard Chester, retired minister, will speak about his missionary experiences in Zimbabwe. RSVP by January 26th (884-7250, ext. 10). A congregational retreat is planned by the Spirituality Committee for June 4th through 6th at Stella Niagara in Lewiston.
Rev. Dr. Rex Stewart of First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown is designating a year-long day of prayer program in which he prays for a specific household on a given day. A postcard is sent a week before the scheduled prayer date.

The First Presbyterian Church of Tonawanda is offering a Real Life Academy, January 16th, from 9 AM to noon. Anyone interested can attend to learn about car repair, household repairs, tax forms, budget, emergency preparedness, or other useful topics. In addition, blood-pressure screening will be available. The church is establishing a Job Bank, matching members’ needs with those who have time, skill, and energy to meet those needs.
The First United Presbyterian Church of Silver Creek announces a special performance during worship by the Chautauqua Children's Chorale led by Nancy Krestic at the worship service on January 10th. On Saturday, January 30th, from 4 to 7 PM, First United will hold a Ham or Spaghetti & Meatball or Glazed Ham Dinner & Basket Raffle for the United Angels Youth Group fundraiser. The First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston announces that Angel Food orders are due into the church office by January 13th. Angel Food pick up is scheduled on January 23rd, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM in the church social hall. On January 27th, a Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from 2 to 7 PM in the social hall. All presenting donors will receive a coupon for a FREE pound of Dunkin Donuts coffee.

BOAR’S HEAD PAGEANT AT YOUNGSTOWN’S FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The Second Saturday Concert Series at First Presbyterian Church (100 Church St., Youngstown) will present a celebration of Twelfth Night through the Boar’s Head Pageant. The program will be held on Sunday, January 10, at 5 PM, and will include carols, wassail, “hearty fare,” bringing in of the boar’s head, the lighting of the torch and the procession of the Kings. Free-will donations will be accepted.
CONCERT AT ORCHARD PARK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Music and the Arts of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church (4369 South Buffalo Street) announces Doug Yeomans, guitarist, "In-Concert" on Sunday, January 17, at 7 PM. Yeomans is the winner of the North American Rock Guitar Competition, and is an acoustic and electric guitarist, songwriter, performer, teaching artist and clinician. Yeomans actively writes, records, and performs original American roots music. This concert is open to the community. Admission by donation ($10 suggested) and includes gourmet desserts and coffee. ROCHESTER MINISTER LEADS A 12-DAY TRIP TO TURKEY
Rev. Judy Hay (pastor of Calvary St. Andrew Presbyterian Parish) is the lead organizer for a two-week tour to sacred sites (Turkey: A Sacred Journey - Footsteps of the Apostle Paul, May 3 - 14, 2010). NEWS FROM NORTH TONAWANDA’S THIRD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Third Presbyterian Church, in North Tonawanda, produced a musical Christmas program entitled Scrooge’s Christmas Carol on Sunday, December 20, directed by Rev. Jeffery L. and Beth Grove. The church hosts the Sunday radio program, “Taste of New Wine,” which is broadcast every Sunday on WJJL, 1440 AM, at 9:00 AM. Rev Dr. Jeffery L. Grove delivers a weekly sermon on this station which reaches all of Western New York and Southern Ontario. The church has planned events throughout 2010 that include a spaghetti dinner in January prepared by the Presbyterian Women’s Association. Proceeds will go to migrant workers. A Valentine Party will take place on February 13th, including a delicious catered dinner. A Lenten Soup Supper and Study is scheduled for four Wednesday evenings in Lent. A delicious corn beef dinner will be served on St. Patrick’s Day.
