Resource Center Update from Mary Mohlke

Six new Nooma 12 minute DVD and discussion starters are in the Resource Center, ready to go out on loan. Rob Bell, pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, Michigan, engages the viewers about an everyday situation and then introduces a spiritual or biblical theme. He calls for a faith in God that is current and active.

NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion.

Name: We compare ourselves to others. We wonder what others think of us. Why are we concerned? What if we accepted our true selves and lived in tune with what God wants for us.

Flame: A visual parable about three different kinds of love with biblical references from song of songs and 1 Corinthians. What it involves to really love somebody?  God wired us a certain way to experience all that love was really meant to be.

Rain: Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something right here, right now, and anybody can be a part of it. Wherever he went, whatever he did, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is always inviting us to open our eyes and join in. Ths visual parable is about trusting God in the storms of life.

Bullhorn: The theme is God's love and sharing it with others by how one lives which is not always easy.  Sometimes we strongly disagree with other people’s political views, religious beliefs, behaviors, or something else, and it makes it hard to love them. Maybe the best way for us to show our love for God is actually by loving other people no matter how hard it sometimes is.

Lump: This visual parable concerns God's great love for each one.  A lot of us have done things in our lives that we’re ashamed of. Some are small things, and some are really big. We have personal junk that we keep to ourselves so we don’t have to deal with it.  No matter how much what we’ve done has impacted the way other people feel about us or how we feel about ourselves, it hasn’t changed how God feels about us. God loves us.

Breathe: The divine breath is in every human being.  We’ve all been created in the image of God and possess immense power and strength. And at the same time our lives are incredibly vulnerable and fragile. Maybe if we had more insight into the meaning of breathing, we would better understand how God created us as human beings.

The Resource Center is staffed Monday-Thursday, 9 am-noon.
